Bistum Đà Nẵng

Roman Catholic Diocese of Đà Nẵng

Bistum Đà Nẵng

Das Bistum Đà Nẵng ist eine in Vietnam gelegene römisch-katholische Diözese mit Sitz in Đà Nẵng.

What it is

The Diocese of Đà Nẵng is the Roman Catholic administrative territory covering central Vietnam, established in its present form in 1963 and led by Bishop Joseph Đặng Đức Ngân since 2016. It is a suffragan diocese under the Archdiocese of Huế, overseeing dozens of parishes and priests across the region. For travellers, the diocese itself isn't a single visitable site — the reason to come to this location is Sacred Heart Cathedral (Da Nang Cathedral), the diocese's seat, a French colonial-era church known locally for its pink exterior and Gothic-style architecture. It functions as an active place of worship, so visits offer a look at both the building and ongoing parish life.

Getting there

The cathedral sits centrally in Da Nang, an easy walk or short taxi/ride-hailing trip from most riverside hotels — typically 5-10 minutes by car from the city centre. It's also a short ride from Da Nang International Airport (DAD), around 10-15 minutes depending on traffic.

Time to allow

Most visitors spend 20-30 minutes here, enough to view the exterior, step inside if services aren't underway, and take photos.

When to go

Mornings or late afternoons tend to be quieter and cooler for walking around outside. As an active cathedral, it can be busy or partially inaccessible to sightseers during Mass, particularly on Sunday mornings, so plan around that if you want a quieter look inside.

Combine with

The cathedral's central location makes it easy to pair with other nearby sights on foot. The Museum of Cham Sculpture is just 0.8km away and worth combining for a change of pace from religious to historical sightseeing. The Dragon River Bridge and Han River Bridge are both about 0.7km away, making a pleasant riverside walk, especially in the late afternoon or evening when the bridges are lit.
