UniCredit Tower

UniCredit Tower

The UniCredit Tower is an office skyscraper in Milan, Italy. The building's spire increases its height to 238 metres (781 ft), making it the tallest building in Italy, although the Allianz Tower, at 210 m (690 ft), ranks the tallest by roof height. The building is the headquarters of UniCredit, Italy's largest bank by assets, and is part of a larger development of new residential and business structures in Milan's Porta Nuova district, near Porta Garibaldi railway station, located at Piazza Gae Aulenti.

What it is

The UniCredit Tower is the headquarters of UniCredit bank and, with its spire, the tallest building in Italy. Travellers go for the view: the tower anchors Piazza Gae Aulenti, a raised circular plaza in the Porta Nuova district surrounded by modern glass architecture. There's no public observation deck inside the tower itself, but the elevated piazza and surrounding streets give clear sightlines to the tower and the rest of the skyline, including the Bosco Verticale residential towers nearby.

Getting there

From central Milan (Duomo area), it's about a 10-15 minute ride on the M2 (green) metro line to Porta Garibaldi, followed by a short walk. Porta Garibaldi is also a major rail hub, so it's an easy stop if arriving by train.

Time to allow

Walking the piazza, taking photos, and exploring the surrounding Porta Nuova streets takes about 30-45 minutes. Allow more time if combining it with a coffee or meal in the area, as the district has numerous cafés and restaurants.

When to go

Piazza Gae Aulenti is a popular gathering spot in the evenings and on weekends, especially in warmer months when its fountains and open space draw crowds. For a quieter visit and better photos of the tower without crowds, go in the morning or on a weekday.
