Pattaya Beach

Pattaya Beach

Pattaya Beach

Pattaya Beach is the main city beachfront, a long curved stretch of sand running roughly parallel to Beach Road with the water on one side and hotels, restaurants, and street vendors on the other. It's a natural setting but a heavily developed one — people come here for swimming, sunbathing, jet skis and parasailing, or simply to walk the promenade in the evening, rather than for untouched scenery.

Because it sits inside the city, most visitors are already staying within walking distance or a short songthaew (shared pickup truck taxi) ride away. Getting there just means heading to Beach Road itself, which runs the length of the bay.

How much time to allow

An hour or two covers a walk and a swim. If you plan to rent a sunbed, try water sports, or eat at one of the beachfront restaurants, allow half a day.

When to go

Early morning or late afternoon into evening is more comfortable, avoiding the strongest midday sun. The beach and promenade get busy in the evenings and on weekends, and water clarity is generally better in the dry season than during the rainy months. Beach Road traffic and noise can be heavy near the main tourist strip, so those wanting a quieter stretch tend to walk further north or south along the bay.

Combine it with

  • Ao Phatthaya (0.7km) — close enough to include in the same walk along the bay.
  • Wong Amat Beach (3.2km) — a quieter alternative beach to the north, reachable by a short taxi or songthaew ride.
  • North Point - Tower A (3.4km) and Ocean 1 Tower (3.8km) — nearby landmarks that can be worked into a trip toward the northern end of the bay.
