Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve
Die Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve ist ein 139 ha großer Nationalpark im Nordwesten von Singapur. Das Gebiet an der Mündung von drei Flüssen wurde ursprünglich für die Zucht von Fischen und Krabben genutzt. Die ökologischen Bedeutung dieses letzten größeren zusammenhängenden Gebietes von Mangrovenwäldern in Singapur wurden 1989 erkannt. What it is
Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve is a 130-hectare wetland reserve on the northwest coast of Singapore, made up of mangroves, mudflats and ponds. It was the first wetland reserve to be gazetted in Singapore, in 2002, and the following year was listed as an ASEAN Heritage Park. The main draw is birdwatching: the reserve sits on the flight path of migratory shorebirds and is part of the East Asian-Australasian Shorebird Site Network, so visitors come for the wildlife rather than for built attractions. Boardwalks and hides let you get close to the mangroves and mudflats without disturbing the birds.
Getting there
From central Singapore, allow around 45 minutes to an hour by public transport, typically taking the MRT to Kranji station and then a short bus or taxi ride to the reserve entrance. Driving takes roughly 30-40 minutes depending on traffic, and there is parking on site.
How much time to allow
Plan for at least 2-3 hours to walk the main boardwalk trails and visit a few hides. Keen birdwatchers or those covering the full trail network should allow half a day.
When to go
Early morning is best for birdwatching and cooler walking conditions, and also tends to be less crowded. Migratory shorebirds are most numerous from around September to March, so this window is best for bird sightings, though the reserve is open year-round for walking the trails.
