타만 아윤 사원
Pura Taman Ayun
타만 아윤 사원(Pura Taman Ayun)은 인도네시아 발리주 바둥군의 멩위에 위치한 힌두교 사원이다. 네덜란드의 인도네시아 역사 학자 헹크 슐테 노르톨트(Henk Schulte Nordholt) 교수는 네가라 멩위(Negara Mengwi)라는 책에서 타만 아윤 사원이 1750년에 보수됐다고 썼다. 건축가는 호빈 호(Hobin Ho)라는 사람이었다고 한다.

Pura Taman Ayun is a royal temple compound built by the Mengwi kingdom, set inside a moated, park-like enclosure with tiered meru shrines and a series of stone courtyards. It's less about a single dramatic structure and more about the layout: pavilions, water channels, and lawns arranged behind a wide moat that reflects the temple towers. The site is tied to Bali's subak irrigation system, so the ponds and canals around it aren't purely decorative but part of the traditional water-management network that also organizes the surrounding rice terraces.
Getting there
The temple is in Mengwi, north of central Bali's tourist hubs. From Denpasar or the Seminyak/Kuta area, expect roughly 45 minutes to an hour by car or scooter, depending on traffic. From Ubud it's closer, generally around 30-40 minutes. There's no direct public transport, so most visitors arrive by private driver, rental scooter, or organized tour.
How much time to allow
An hour to 90 minutes is usually enough to walk the grounds, cross the moat, and view the courtyards from the outer wall (the innermost courtyard is typically closed to visitors, so most of the visit is exterior viewing).
When to go
Early morning offers softer light and fewer visitors, particularly useful for photos of the moat and shrine towers. Tour buses tend to arrive mid-morning to early afternoon, so the site can feel busier then. Being outdoors and largely unshaded, it's more comfortable to visit before the midday heat builds up.
Combining with nearby sights
Sungai and Badung Rivers are both about 5 km away and can be paired with the temple visit if you're interested in river scenery or activities in the area. Sangeh, roughly 7.6 km off, is a forest known for its monkey population, and the more famous Ubud Monkey Forest is about 9.8 km away — either makes sense as a next stop if continuing toward Ubud.
