Roman Catholic Diocese of Nha Trang
The Roman Catholic Diocese of Nha Trang covers an area of 9,486 km² in the Provinces of Ninh Thuan and Khanh Hoa in Vietnam and is a suffragan diocese of the Archdiocese of Huế. The creation of the diocese in present form was declared November 24, 1960.
Christ the King Cathedral and the diocesan seat
The Roman Catholic Diocese of Nha Trang is the administrative body overseeing Catholic parishes across Ninh Thuan and Khanh Hoa provinces. For a visitor, "the diocese" in practice means Christ the King Cathedral (Nha Trang Cathedral), its seat, which sits on a small hill in the centre of town. There isn't a separate diocesan building to tour; the cathedral itself, with its stone Gothic-style architecture from the French colonial period, is what draws people, along with the view over the surrounding streets from its elevated position.
Getting there
The cathedral is centrally located, an easy walk or short taxi/grab ride from most hotels along the beachfront — typically 5-15 minutes depending on where you're staying. Coming from Cam Ranh International Airport (CXR), it's roughly 30-40 minutes by taxi or shuttle into the city centre first.
Time to allow
A visit to the cathedral grounds and interior generally takes 20-40 minutes, longer if you want to sit, take photographs from the hillside, or wait for a lull in visitor traffic.
When to go
Early morning or late afternoon tends to be quieter and cooler for climbing the steps up to the cathedral. It can get busy with tour groups around midday. As with any active place of worship, dress modestly and be mindful during services.
Combining with nearby sights
This is one of the most walkable clusters in Nha Trang:
- Long Sơn Pagoda (0.9km) — a short walk or quick ride, offering a Buddhist counterpart to the cathedral, with a large hillside Buddha statue.
- Yersin Museum (1km) — an easy add-on nearby, focused on the life of scientist Alexandre Yersin.
- Po Nagar (2.2km) — a short taxi ride away, the Cham temple towers make for a good contrast in religious architecture if you're spending a half-day exploring the city's heritage sites.
