Taipei Taiwan Temple
末日聖徒イエス・キリスト教会 は、非三位一体派のキリスト教の原始主義教派であり、末日聖徒運動の中で最大の教派である。第二次大覚醒の時期に設立された同教会は、ユタ州ソルトレイクシティに本部を置き、世界中に集会所を設立し神殿を建設している。教会の発表によると、2024年現在で1,750万人以上の会員を擁し、そのうち680万人以上がアメリカ合衆国に居住している。また、10万9,000人以上のボランティア宣教師がおり、奉献された神殿が200以上あると報告している。非公式にはLDS教会 やモルモン教会 として知られる。
What it is
The Taipei Taiwan Temple is a temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, standing on Ai Kuo East Road in central Taipei. It's one of the older temples of its kind in Asia, dedicated in the early 1980s on a site that had previously held a prison and then a chapel. Visitors who aren't members of the church can view the building and its grounds from outside; entry to the temple interior itself is generally reserved for church members, so the appeal for most travellers is the exterior architecture and the quiet, landscaped setting rather than a full interior tour.
Getting there
It sits in the government and cultural district near Liberty Square, an area well served by Taipei's MRT system — the closest stations are within easy walking distance of downtown. From central Taipei, a taxi or MRT ride typically takes 10–20 minutes depending on your starting point.
How long to spend
Since access is limited to the exterior grounds for most visitors, 15–30 minutes is enough to see the building and gardens.
When to go
Mornings or late afternoons are more comfortable, especially in summer when Taipei is hot and humid. The site itself doesn't tend to draw crowds, so timing is more about weather than avoiding busy periods.
What to combine it with
The temple is close to several other sights, making it easy to build into a half-day itinerary. Liberty Square and the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall are both about 0.7km away, the Taipei Grand Mosque is roughly the same distance, and Daan Forest Park is about 0.8km away — all reasonably walkable if the weather cooperates.
