Overview

La Pyramide is a prominent high-rise in the central Plateau district of Abidjan. Built over five years starting in 1968, its defining feature is a distinctive facade designed by an Italian architect to evoke the vibrancy of an African market. Travellers visit primarily to observe and photograph its unique modernist architecture from street level.

Getting There

Because the building sits directly in the Plateau city centre, it is easily reached on foot from nearby commercial streets. From outlying neighbourhoods, a standard taxi ride to the district takes roughly 15 to 30 minutes depending on traffic.

Visiting Time

Allow about 20 to 30 minutes. As viewing is focused on the exterior design, a short walking stop is sufficient to see the structure from different angles.

When to Go

Daylight hours provide the best conditions for viewing the exterior. Midday or weekends are best to avoid the heavy traffic and pedestrian crowds that fill the business district during weekday morning and evening rush hours.
