Legon Botanical Gardens
Legon Botanical Gardens
Located within the University of Ghana campus, this 50-hectare botanical garden serves as a managed green space for conservation and recreation. Visitors go here to walk through the forest, stroll around the lake, and use the canopy walkway for an elevated view of the greenery.
Getting There
The gardens are located in the Legon area of Accra. From the city centre, the most common way to reach the site is via taxi or ride-sharing service. Depending on the traffic conditions in Accra, the journey typically takes between 20 and 40 minutes.
Duration of Visit
Allow approximately 2 to 4 hours to explore the grounds. This provides enough time to complete the canopy walk and walk the perimeter of the lake at a steady pace.
When to Visit
Morning visits are recommended to avoid the peak midday heat. The gardens can become crowded on weekends and public holidays when local residents visit for leisure. During the rainy season, some paths may be damp, so appropriate footwear is advised.
