Overview

Amdavad ni Gufa is an underground art gallery in Ahmedabad designed by architect Balkrishna Doshi to showcase works by painter Maqbool Fida Husain. The structure features a cave-like domed interior supported by irregular, tree-like pillars, with artwork applied directly onto the curved wall surfaces. Visitors go to experience the unconventional integration of modern Indian painting and organic architectural design.

Getting There

Located in the western part of the city, the gallery is accessible from central Ahmedabad by auto-rickshaw or taxi. The drive typically takes between 15 and 30 minutes, depending on local traffic.

Plan for 45 minutes to 1 hour to view the subterranean exhibition space and walk around the above-ground dome complex.

When to Visit

The cooler period from October to March offers the most comfortable weather for travelling in Ahmedabad.
