Catholic Church of Our Lady of the Rosary
Overview
The Catholic Church of Our Lady of the Rosary is a Roman Catholic place of worship situated in the Abu Hamour religious complex. It holds historical significance as the first Christian church constructed in Qatar in modern times. Travellers visit to attend religious services, observe the gatherings of the diverse expatriate congregation, or view its discreet modern architecture, which was designed without exterior crosses or bells in accordance with local regulations.
Getting There
The complex is located approximately 15 to 20 kilometres from central Doha and Al Wakrah. The most practical transport option is a taxi or ride-hailing service, which takes around 20 to 30 minutes in normal traffic. Alternatively, you can take the Doha Metro and transfer to a connecting feeder bus or a short taxi ride to reach the gates.
Time to Spend
Allow 30 to 45 minutes for a self-guided walk through the grounds and main interior. If attending a service, plan for 1 to 1.5 hours to account for entry checks and the liturgy.
When to Visit
Fridays and Sundays are peak days when large crowds gather for services in multiple languages, resulting in heavy vehicle traffic and busy entry points. For a quieter atmosphere, visit on weekday mornings or early afternoons. Travelling between November and March is preferable to avoid extreme outdoor temperatures.
Combining Your Visit
The church is located inside the dedicated Religious Complex, allowing you to see several other Christian denomination churches in the immediate vicinity. Its location along key highway routes also makes it straightforward to combine with a transfer to or from Hamad International Airport (DOH).
