Ali Bitchin Mosque is a 17th-century place of worship located where Bab El Oued meets the lower Casbah in Algiers. The structure stands on the edge of the lower Casbah. From central areas such as Place des Martyrs, it is reachable on foot in roughly 5 to 10 minutes. A taxi ride from other parts of the city centre typically takes 10 to 15 minutes, depending on traffic along the main roads.

When to Go

Spring and autumn offer the most moderate weather for walking through the district. Mornings are generally quieter before commercial and pedestrian activity picks up. Because this is a functioning house of worship, avoid visiting during daily prayer times, particularly Friday midday prayers when the building and adjacent streets become crowded.
