Temple of Hercules
Overview
The Temple of Hercules is an ancient Roman ruin located on the Citadel hill overlooking downtown Amman. Travellers visit to examine the remaining stone columns, architectural fragments, and the excavated marble pieces of a colossal statue, while also taking in elevated views across the capital.
Getting There
From downtown Amman, the site is accessible by taxi in roughly 5 to 10 minutes depending on traffic. Walking up from the city centre via the stairways and steep streets is also possible and takes around 15 to 20 minutes.
Visiting Time
Allow approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour to walk around the temple ruins and look out over the surrounding hills.
When to Visit
Visit in the early morning or late afternoon to avoid intense midday heat and sun, as the open hilltop provides almost no shade. The area receives regular visitor traffic, with larger tour groups commonly arriving between mid-morning and early afternoon.
