Hacı Bayram Mosque

Overview

Built during the Ottoman era, Hacı Bayram Mosque is a landmark in Ankara's old town. Named after a Turkish Sufi poet, it draws visitors interested in historical architecture, featuring painted wooden ceilings, fine stonework, and a location standing side-by-side with ancient Roman ruins.

Getting There

From central Ankara (Kızılay), take the metro north to Ulus station. From the station, walk northeast uphill for roughly 500 metres. The total trip takes 15 to 20 minutes.

Time to Allow

Allow 30 to 45 minutes to tour the prayer hall and exterior courtyard.

When to Visit

The complex is an active place of worship and becomes crowded during Friday prayers and religious holidays. Visit on weekday mornings or early afternoons to avoid crowds. Modest dress covering shoulders and knees is required, and shoes must be removed upon entry.
