Overview

The Nederrijn is the Dutch section of the Rhine flowing through Arnhem, continuing downstream where it becomes the Lek. Travellers visit to walk or cycle along the paths lining the riverbank and to view the surrounding landscape.

Getting There

The riverfront is accessible on foot from Arnhem's city centre in roughly 10 to 15 minutes. For international visitors arriving at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AMS), direct trains connect the airport to Arnhem Central Station.

Time to Spend

Plan to spend between 1 and 2 hours for a leisurely walk along the riverbank. Allow up to 3 or 4 hours if you plan to walk an extended circuit across the local bridges.

When to Visit

Spring and summer offer the most favorable weather for riverside walks. Mornings are generally quiet, whereas sunny weekend afternoons can see moderate pedestrian and cycling traffic. In winter, strong winds off the water can make conditions brisk and exposed.
