What It Is

Veluwezoom National Park is the oldest national park in the Netherlands, located at the southeastern edge of the Veluwe near Arnhem. Travellers visit to walk and cycle through its varied, undulating terrain, which features moraine hills, heathlands, and dense forest.

Getting There

From Arnhem city centre, regional trains reach nearby stations like Rheden in roughly 10 to 15 minutes. Travelling by car takes about 15 minutes, while cycling directly from the centre takes 30 to 45 minutes.

Time to Allow

Allow 3 to 4 hours for a standard walk or cycling loop. If you plan to hike longer marked trails across the heath and wooded areas, set aside a full day (5 to 6 hours).

When to Visit

The park is accessible throughout the year, with August and September being notable for blooming purple heather. Weekends and sunny afternoons can get crowded with cyclists and hikers. Visit early in the morning or on weekdays for a quieter experience.
