Velestúr is the fifth-highest peak in the Kremnica Mountains, located near Banská Bystrica. Travellers visit this site for the ridge trail and the summit, where a rock featuring undeciphered runic inscriptions is located.

Getting There

The peak is accessible via hiking trails starting from the outskirts of Banská Bystrica. Depending on the chosen path and walking pace, the ascent from the city centre typically takes a few hours.

Duration of Visit

Allow half a day for a round trip. This provides enough time for the climb, a visit to the runic rock at the summit, and the descent back to the city.

When to Visit

The trail is best visited during the spring, summer, and autumn. In winter, hiking gear is necessary due to snow and ice. The area is generally quiet and does not experience heavy crowds.
