Château de la Montagne
The Château de la Montagne is the site of a 17th-century fortified palace in Basseterre. Once a prominent Baroque residence in the Caribbean, the structure was destroyed by an earthquake. Visitors today go to see the remaining ruins and the historical foundations of the estate.
Getting There
The ruins are located on the outskirts of Basseterre. From the city centre, the site is accessible via a short drive or taxi ride, typically taking about 5 to 10 minutes depending on traffic.
Visit Duration
Most visitors spend between 45 minutes and 1.5 hours exploring the ruins and the surrounding grounds.
When to Visit
Visiting during the morning or late afternoon is recommended to avoid the midday heat. The site is outdoors and exposed to the elements. It does not typically experience the heavy crowds found at primary beach resorts.
