Battambang has a tropical monsoon climate with three distinct seasons: cool and dry, hot and dry, and wet. In mid-April, Choul Chnam Thmey (Khmer New Year) brings lively street celebrations, but many local family-run businesses close and intercity buses sell out days ahead. If traveling now, pack a dust scarf or face covering and arrange long-distance transit well in advance.

June to October: Monsoon Rains and Green Countryside

Rainfall arrives primarily as brief, heavy afternoon downpours rather than continuous rain, leaving mornings workable for touring. Surrounding rice paddies turn vibrant green, though dirt roads toward peripheral sites like Phnom Sampeau and Wat Ek Phnom can become slick with red mud. Late October features spirited dragon boat races along the river. Pack quick-drying clothing and water-resistant shoes.
