Port of Beirut

The Port of Beirut is a major maritime gateway located on Lebanon's Mediterranean coast. Established in 1887 during the Ottoman era, it serves as one of the largest ports in the eastern Mediterranean. Visitors typically go to this area to observe the city's industrial scale and its role as the primary entry point for goods entering the city.

Getting There

The port is located in northern Beirut. From the city centre, it is accessible via taxi or ride-sharing services. Depending on traffic conditions, the journey generally takes between 10 and 20 minutes.

Duration of Visit

Depending on the specific area being visited and the purpose of the trip, allow 1 to 2 hours to explore the perimeter and observe the port operations.

When to Visit

The area is most active during weekday business hours. To avoid the heaviest commercial traffic and congestion, visiting during the mid-morning or early afternoon is recommended. Like most coastal areas in Lebanon, the weather is mildest during the spring and autumn seasons.

Nearby Attractions

The port is situated close to several cultural and historical sites. You can combine a visit here with the following locations:

  • Rmeil (0.3km)
  • Sursock Museum (1.1km)
  • Martyrs' Square (1.2km)
  • Emir Assaf Mosque (1.3km)
