Overview

The Museum of Belize is an art and history museum located in Belize City. Housed in a historic former prison, it brings together Belizean art, colonial artifacts, and ancient Maya history in one place. Travelers visit to understand the cultural and historical background of Belize.

Getting There

From the city centre near the Swing Bridge, the location is a 5- to 10-minute walk (about 500 meters). A taxi from downtown takes under 5 minutes. From Philip S. W. Goldson International Airport (BZE), driving or taking a taxi takes approximately 30 minutes.

Allow 1 to 1.5 hours to tour the galleries and view the permanent displays.

When to Visit

Mornings are generally quietest. The museum can become crowded around midday when cruise ship tour groups arrive in the city. The dry season from December to April provides the most comfortable conditions for walking.
