Spree
Overview
The Spree is a river flowing through northern Germany that passes directly through central Berlin before joining the Havel. Travellers visit the waterfront promenades to walk, cycle, and view the cityscape from the water's edge.
Getting There
Because the river runs through the heart of Berlin, reaching the riverbanks from the city centre takes 5 to 15 minutes on foot, or a few minutes using local U-Bahn and S-Bahn connections.
Recommended Time
Plan to spend between 1 and 2 hours for a casual walk along the central embankments, or up to half a day if exploring longer riverside routes on foot or by bicycle.
Best Time to Visit
Warm months from spring to early autumn provide the best conditions for outdoor walks. Riverside areas become crowded on sunny afternoons and warm weekends, so visit during the morning if you prefer fewer crowds.
Nearby Attractions
