Western Wall Plaza

The Western Wall Plaza is an open public square located in the Jewish Quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem. It serves as the primary gathering area for visitors and worshippers attending the Western Wall, one of the holiest sites in Judaism. Travelers visit this space to access the prayer area, observe religious customs, or navigate between different sections of the Old City.

Getting There

The plaza is located within the pedestrian zones of the Old City. From the city center or the Jaffa Gate entrance, visitors typically walk through the narrow streets of the Jewish Quarter. The walk generally takes 10 to 15 minutes depending on the starting point and the pace of the crowd.

Duration of Visit

Depending on the purpose of the visit, allow between 30 minutes to two hours. This provides enough time to walk through the plaza and spend time at the adjacent wall.

When to Visit

The area is frequently crowded, particularly on Fridays, Saturdays, and during Jewish holidays. To avoid the largest crowds, visiting during weekday mornings is recommended. Because the plaza is an open outdoor space, it is exposed to the elements; summer months can be very hot, while winter may be rainy.

  • Jewish Quarter (0.1km)
  • Al-Aqsa Mosque (0.2km)
