Overview

The Royal Opera House is a historic performance site in Valletta. Designed in the 19th century by British architect Edward Barry, the building was restored after a fire and later ruined during World War II bombing. Today, its standing ruins and open-air stage allow visitors to see a significant piece of the capital's history.

Getting There

Located on Republic Street near the city gate, the site is reached on foot within Valletta. From Birkirkara or Malta International Airport (MLA), buses and taxis reach the Valletta bus terminal in 20 to 30 minutes, followed by a two-minute walk.

Time to Allow

Plan for 20 to 30 minutes to view the ruins and architectural details, or more if attending an evening show.

When to Visit

Mornings and late afternoons provide cooler temperatures and fewer people. The surrounding area gets crowded around midday as tour groups enter the city.
