St. Elmo Bridge
This pedestrian arch-truss bridge connects Fort St. Elmo's Fort in Valletta to the breakwater at the entrance of the Grand Harbour. Visitors go here to walk across the harbor entrance and view the surrounding fortifications and maritime activity of the port.
Getting There
The bridge is located at the tip of the Valletta peninsula. From the city center, it is accessible via a walk toward the waterfront. Depending on your starting point in the center, the walk typically takes 15 to 20 minutes.
Duration of Visit
Most visitors spend between 30 and 60 minutes at this location, which allows enough time to walk to the end of the breakwater and return.
When to Visit
The bridge is open to the air, so it is most accessible during daylight hours. It can become crowded during peak tourist seasons and during cruise ship arrivals when large groups enter the harbor. To avoid the strongest sun and the largest crowds, early morning or late afternoon is recommended.
