Primate's Palace

Overview

Built in the late 18th century as an archbishop's residence, this Neoclassical palace in Bratislava's Old Town holds historical importance. Visitors go to view its interior halls, including the Hall of Mirrors where a peace treaty was signed, and to see a landmark that serves today as the city mayor's seat.

Getting There

Situated in the pedestrian zone of the Old Town, the site is a two- to five-minute walk from the town centre. From transit stops bordering the historic core, walking takes roughly five to ten minutes.

Time to Spend

Allow 45 to 60 minutes to view the interior rooms, exhibitions, and courtyard at a steady pace.

When to Visit

Arrive in the morning for a quieter visit before tour groups arrive. The halls get crowded during summer afternoons, making early hours or off-season visits preferable.

Nearby Attractions

Its central location makes it straightforward to combine with nearby sights:

  • Primate's Square (0km): The public square directly outside the entrance.
  • Hlavné námestie (0.1km): Bratislava's main historic square.
  • Franciscan Church (0.2km): A long-standing religious site a short stroll away.
  • Johann Pálffy Palace (0.2km): Another period residence in the Old Town.
