Carlisle Bay

Located in southwestern Barbados, this natural bay is a designated marine park. Visitors go here primarily for swimming, snorkeling, and scuba diving. The seabed contains historical artifacts, including sunken anchors and cannonballs from old shipwrecks, which are accessible to divers.

Getting There

The bay is situated on the edge of Bridgetown. From the city centre, it is a short trip of approximately 2 to 3 kilometers. Depending on the mode of transport, it typically takes 5 to 10 minutes to reach the waterfront area.

Duration of Visit

Allow between 3 and 5 hours to visit. This provides enough time to engage in water activities, explore the marine park, or take a boat trip to the various wreck sites located further out in the bay.

When to Visit

Morning visits are recommended to avoid the midday heat and the peak crowds that arrive during the afternoon. The bay is a popular destination for both locals and tourists, so it can become crowded on weekends and during the peak winter travel season.

Nearby Attractions

The bay is positioned close to several historical sites in and around Bridgetown. You can combine your visit with the following:

  • Needham's Point Lighthouse (0.8km)
  • St. Patrick's Cathedral (1.2km)
  • Roman Catholic Diocese of Bridgetown (1.3km)
  • Chamberlain Bridge (1.4km)
