Indooroopilly Island Conservation Park

This nature reserve is located on an island within the Brisbane River. Visitors go here primarily to observe one of Australia's largest colonies of flying-foxes in their natural habitat. The park provides a dedicated space for wildlife observation and nature walks away from the urban center.

Getting There

The park is located west of the Brisbane city centre. You can reach the area via public transport using the train to Indooroopilly station or by car. The journey from the city centre typically takes between 20 and 30 minutes depending on the mode of transport and traffic conditions.

Visit Duration

Most visitors spend between 1 and 2 hours at the reserve. This allows enough time to walk the available paths and observe the wildlife without rushing.

When to Visit

The best time to visit is during the late afternoon or early evening when the flying-foxes become active and leave the colony to forage. The park is accessible throughout the year, though weather conditions can affect the visibility and activity of the animals.

Nearby Attractions

The park can be combined with visits to other local landmarks and infrastructure nearby, including:

  • Oxley Creek (1.8km)
  • Jack Pesch Bridge (1.9km)
  • Albert Bridge, Brisbane (1.9km)
  • Indooroopilly Railway Bridge (1.9km)
