Sint-Salvatorskathedraal
What It Is
Sint-Salvatorskathedraal is the Roman Catholic cathedral of Bruges, dedicated to the Holy Saviour and Saint Donatian. Originally built as a parish church before elevated status, the building combines a Romanesque-style tower with a Gothic interior. Visitors go to view its collection of Flemish paintings, choir tapestries, and historical wood carvings.
Getting There
The cathedral sits in central Bruges along Steenstraat. It takes roughly 5 minutes to walk there from the Markt, Bruges's main square.
Time to Allow
Set aside 30 to 45 minutes to walk through the interior, see the artwork, and explore the choir area.
When to Visit
Mornings and late afternoons are the quietest times. Midday can get crowded, especially during peak summer months when tour groups arrive. Sightseeing is not permitted during religious services, so plan around mass.
