The House of European History focuses on modern and contemporary European history, exploring the political, social, and economic forces that shaped the continent. Initiated by the European Parliament and opened in 2017, it presents transnational history across multiple floors using interactive media, documents, and artefacts rather than a country-by-country perspective.

Getting There

From central Brussels, take metro line 1 or 5 to Maelbeek or Schuman station. From either stop, it is a short walk through Leopold Park to the entrance. The journey from the city centre takes roughly 15 to 20 minutes.

Time to Spend

Allow 2 to 3 hours to see the permanent collection and engage with the interactive multimedia guides provided on site.

When to Visit

Weekday mornings or late afternoons are best to avoid crowds. Midday and weekends can see heavier foot traffic and school groups, leading to queues at the security entrance and within exhibition rooms.
