Overview
Aviației is a neighborhood in northern Bucharest's Sector 1. Built during the Ceaușescu era as housing for pilots and airport staff connected to nearby Aurel Vlaicu Airport, it functions today as a commercial and residential district. Visitors come primarily for street-level shopping, modern retail spaces, and dining away from the historical center.
Getting There
From central Bucharest, take the M2 metro line northbound to Aurel Vlaicu station. The train journey takes about 15 to 20 minutes. Driving or taking a taxi typically takes 20 to 35 minutes depending on traffic conditions.
Time to Spend
Allow 1 to 2 hours for walking and shopping, or 2 to 3 hours if sitting down for a meal.
When to Visit
Weekdays during morning and evening rush hours are crowded with commuters and heavy road traffic. Midday hours and weekends are significantly quieter. Spring and autumn provide the most comfortable weather for walking.
