Morii Lake
Overview
Lake Morii is a 246-hectare reservoir located roughly 6 km west of central Bucharest, situated between the Polytechnic University area and the Crângași, Giulești, and Militari districts. As the largest body of water in the area, it features a paved promenade atop an elevated dam, drawing visitors looking for open walking trails, jogging paths, and wide views across the water basin.
Getting There
From central Bucharest, the site is reachable in about 20 to 30 minutes by taking the metro to Crângași station followed by a short walk to the lakeside dam. Taxis or rideshare vehicles typically take 15 to 25 minutes depending on traffic conditions.
Time to Allow
Plan to spend 1 to 2 hours for a standard walk along the main promenade. Covering longer stretches of the perimeter on foot will require additional time.
When to Visit
Late afternoon and early evening are practical times to visit for cooler temperatures and sunset views over the reservoir. The elevated dam has little tree cover, so summer midday visits can be uncomfortably hot. The promenade gets crowded with local runners and walkers on sunny weekend evenings, while winter days often bring strong, cold winds across the open water.
