Revolution Square

Revolution Square is a public space in central Bucharest. Originally called Palace Square, it was renamed to commemorate the 1989 Romanian Revolution, which took place here. Travelers visit the square to see the historical sites associated with the country's transition from communism and to observe the surrounding architecture.

Getting There

The square is located within the city center. Depending on your starting point in the central district, it is accessible via a short walk or a brief trip on public transport. From the main central hubs, it typically takes 5 to 15 minutes to reach.

Time Requirement

Most visitors spend between 30 minutes and one hour walking through the square and viewing the monuments. If you intend to read the historical markers in detail, allow slightly more time.

When to Visit

The square is open to the public at all times. Morning or late afternoon visits avoid the midday heat during summer. The area can get crowded during national holidays or public demonstrations.

Nearby Attractions

Because of its central location, the square can be combined with several other sites within walking distance:

  • Kretzulescu Church (0.1km)
  • Royal Palace of Bucharest (0.2km)
  • National Museum of Art of Romania (0.2km)
  • Romanian Athenaeum (0.3km)
