Mount Majura

Mount Majura is an 890-meter peak located in the northern suburbs of Canberra. As the highest point within the city boundary, it is situated inside a nature park and is used primarily for hiking and viewing the city layout from an elevated vantage point.

Getting There

The peak is accessible from the Canberra city centre via car or public transport. The drive typically takes about 15 to 20 minutes depending on the specific trailhead used.

Time Allocation

Visitors should allow between 3 and 5 hours to complete a round-trip hike to the summit, depending on the chosen trail and individual walking pace.

Planning Your Visit

The area is best visited during the spring and autumn months to avoid the extreme heat of summer or the cold of winter. Early morning is recommended for hikers to avoid midday sun. While it is a popular local spot, it generally does not reach the crowd levels of the city's central monuments.

Nearby Points of Interest

The nature park can be combined with other local sites in the northern region:

  • Mount Ainslie (4.1km): Another prominent peak offering city views.
  • All Saints Anglican Church (4.8km): A local historical site.
  • Corroboree Park (4.9km): A nearby public green space.
  • Haig Park (5.8km): A local park for further outdoor activity.
