What to Expect

Claremont is a prominent commercial and residential district in the southern suburbs of Cape Town. Travellers visit primarily for retail and everyday dining rather than sightseeing, taking advantage of large shopping centers, pedestrian-friendly streets, and casual cafes.

Getting There

The district is located roughly 10 to 15 kilometers south of the Cape Town city centre. Driving or taking a rideshare via the M3 or Main Road takes approximately 15 to 30 minutes, depending on traffic.

Time to Allow

Plan for 2 to 4 hours if you want to browse the retail stores and sit down for a meal. If you are only stopping for a specific shop, 1 to 2 hours is sufficient.

When to Go

Weekday mornings and early afternoons are quieter and easier to navigate. The commercial areas become crowded on Saturday mornings and during weekday late-afternoon rush hours, when local roads and parking lots fill up quickly.

Nearby Combinations

A visit can easily be combined with other attractions in the southern suburbs:

  • Newlands (1.4km)
  • Groote Schuur (1.9km)
  • Bishopscourt (2.1km)
  • Baxter Theatre Centre (2.6km)
