Epping
Overview
Epping is an industrial district in Cape Town's Cape Flats area, southeast of the city centre. While predominantly an industrial zone, it draws visitors interested in food distribution and trade because of its long-standing fresh produce market, where regional growers, local traders, and restaurateurs buy fruits and vegetables in bulk.
Getting There
From Cape Town city centre, the drive takes roughly 15 to 25 minutes by car or ride-hail service, depending on traffic. The district is also positioned within easy reach of Cape Town International Airport (CPT).
Time to Allow
Set aside 1 to 2 hours to walk through the market facilities and observe the commercial activity.
When to Go
Go early in the morning when wholesale activity peaks and fresh stock arrives. The trading area becomes crowded with delivery vehicles, forklifts, and wholesale buyers, so take care when walking around. Activity winds down considerably by late morning.
