Overview

The Magnificent Mile is a commercial stretch of Michigan Avenue extending from the Chicago River to Oak Street, between Streeterville and River North. Travellers visit primarily for retail shopping, walking, and viewing city architecture.

Getting There

From downtown Chicago (the Loop), walk north across the Chicago River bridge in about 10 to 15 minutes. Alternatively, CTA Red Line trains to Grand or Chicago stations take under 10 minutes, alongside regular bus services on Michigan Avenue.

Time to Allow

Allow 2 to 4 hours. A continuous walk from end to end takes roughly 30 to 45 minutes, with additional time needed for shopping or visiting indoor centers.

When to Go

Weekday mornings are best to avoid heavy foot traffic. Sidewalks become crowded on weekend afternoons, during the summer months, and throughout the winter holiday season.
