Overview

Christchurch Town Hall is a performing arts and concert venue opened in 1972 along the Avon River. Travellers visit primarily to attend live music and cultural performances, or to view its architecture while walking through the central river precinct.

Getting There

The building is located in central Christchurch next to Victoria Square. From Cathedral Square, it takes about 5 to 10 minutes on foot heading northwest. Local buses and taxis serve the immediate central area.

Allow 20 to 30 minutes if exploring the exterior and surrounding riverbank. If attending a ticketed performance, plan for 2 to 3 hours including seating and intermission.

When to Visit

Daytime is best for viewing the building exterior and walking along the Avon River. Evenings are active when shows are scheduled. The venue and nearby footpaths become crowded before and after performances.
