Severinsbrücke

The Severinsbrücke is a cable-stayed bridge spanning the Rhine river, connecting the Severin district with Deutz. Completed in 1959, it was the first new bridge constructed in Cologne following World War II. Travelers visit the bridge primarily to walk across the Rhine and view the city skyline and the Cologne Cathedral from a distance.

Getting There

The bridge is accessible from the city centre via a short walk or by using local public transport. Depending on your starting point in the central district, it typically takes 10 to 20 minutes to reach the bridge on foot.

Time Requirement

Allow approximately 30 to 60 minutes to walk across the bridge and observe the surrounding river views.

When to Visit

The bridge is open to pedestrians at all times. Visiting during the evening allows for views of the city lights. Like many central landmarks in Cologne, it can become crowded with commuters and tourists during peak afternoon hours and weekends.

Nearby Attractions

Because of its central location, the bridge can be combined with visits to several nearby sites:

  • Schokoladenmuseum Köln (0.3km)
  • St. Maria Lyskirchen (0.4km)
  • St. Maria im Kapitol (0.8km)
  • St. George's Church (0.8km)
