Seema Malaka
Overview
Seema Malaka is a Buddhist temple situated on Beira Lake in central Colombo. Used primarily for meditation and quiet reflection rather than large-scale worship, the site features open-sided pavilions resting on platforms over the water, lined with bronze Buddha statues.
Getting There
Located close to central Colombo, the site is a 10 to 15-minute taxi or three-wheeler ride from the Fort area, depending on traffic.
Time to Spend
Plan for 30 to 45 minutes. The compact wooden platforms provide enough room for a short walk and a brief period of seated contemplation.
When to Visit
Early morning or late afternoon is preferable to avoid hot sun on the outdoor walkways. It is generally peaceful, though crowds increase on weekends and Buddhist full-moon days. Modest clothing covering shoulders and knees is required, and shoes must be removed before entering.
