Ile Warramous Island

Overview

Ile Warramous is an uninhabited island located off the coast of Djibouti City, where the Gulf of Tadjoura meets the Gulf of Aden. Because the island has no residents and public access is restricted, visits are limited to viewing it from the mainland shoreline or from offshore boats rather than walking on land.

Getting There

The island lies off the southern coast of the capital. Reaching coastal vantage points from central Djibouti City takes roughly 15 to 25 minutes by taxi or car. Approaching the surrounding waters by boat requires departing from local harbour facilities.

Time to Allow

Plan for 30 to 45 minutes to view the island from the coast or as part of a short boat transit along the shoreline.

When to Visit

The cooler winter season from November to March is best for coastal sightseeing, avoiding extreme summer heat. Early morning and late afternoon provide clear visibility and manageable temperatures. Due to access restrictions, the island does not experience tourist crowds.

What to Combine It With

You can combine viewing the island with visits to nearby landmarks in Djibouti City:

  • Salman Mosque (4.2km)
  • Hamoudi Mosque (6.4km)
  • Roman Catholic Diocese of Djibouti (6.7km)
  • Our Lady of the Good Shepherd Cathedral, Djibouti (6.7km)
