Burj Khalifa

The Burj Khalifa is the tallest building in the world, and its main draw for visitors is the observation deck partway up the tower, which gives an open view over Dubai's skyline, the coastline, and the desert beyond. The base also sits alongside Dubai Mall and the Dubai Fountain, so the area works as a combined half-day stop rather than a single quick visit.

Getting there

From central Dubai, the easiest route is the Dubai Metro to Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall station, followed by a walk of around 10 minutes along a covered, air-conditioned walkway to the mall and tower entrance. By taxi from downtown areas, the ride typically takes about 10-15 minutes depending on traffic.

How much time to allow

Plan for at least 1.5 to 2 hours in total, including time to reach the observation deck, take in the views, and pass through entry and security. If you're combining it with Dubai Mall, add extra time separately for that.

When to go

Visiting near sunset lets you see the city in both daylight and lit up at night, which is a popular reason this time slot tends to book up and get crowded well in advance. Midday visits, especially outside summer, are generally quieter. Summer afternoons can be very hot for the walk between the metro and the tower, so factor that into your timing.

Nearby

  • Address Downtown (0.6km) - a short walk away, useful as a landmark or dining stop.
  • Millennium Tower (0.9km) - within easy walking distance.
  • The Index (1.2km) - about a 15-minute walk.
  • Vision Tower (1.4km) - the furthest of the group, still walkable but may suit a taxi in the heat.

Since these are all close by, they can be strung together with the Burj Khalifa and Dubai Mall into a single downtown outing on foot.
