Dubai Zoo

Overview

Opened in 1967, this facility was the first zoo on the Arabian Peninsula. It operated for fifty years in the coastal Jumeirah district before closing permanently in 2017, when its animals were transferred to Dubai Safari Park. Visitors today pass through the area to see the historical location and explore the surrounding neighborhood, as the site no longer houses live animals.

Getting There

The site sits in Jumeirah, approximately 10 to 15 minutes by taxi or car from downtown Dubai. Local public buses serving the Jumeirah Beach corridor also provide access from central transit hubs.

Time to Allow

Because the attraction is closed, set aside roughly 15 to 30 minutes to view the area while passing through the district.

When to Visit

Walking around the area is most pleasant from November through March, when outdoor temperatures are moderate. Late afternoons provide cooler conditions. The site itself does not draw crowds, though neighborhood streets encounter typical commuter traffic during rush hours.

Nearby Attractions

You can combine a visit to this area with several nearby landmarks:

  • Jumeirah Mosque (1.6 km)
  • Al Satwa (1.6 km)
  • Khalid Al Attar Tower 2 (2.3 km)
  • Al Yaqoub Tower (2.4 km)
