Located southwest of central Dunedin, this coastal site features sandstone cliffs, rock arches, and sea caves formed by wave erosion. The primary feature is a tunnel carved into the rock in the 1870s by a local politician for his family, which provides visitors with a path to descend from the cliff top down to the shoreline.

Getting There

The site is accessible from Dunedin city centre via a short drive of approximately 10 to 15 minutes. Visitors typically use a rental car or taxi to reach the parking area near the entrance.

Allow roughly 1 to 2 hours to walk through the tunnel, explore the beach, and return to the top. The time required depends on the pace of the walk and the amount of time spent observing the rock formations.
