The fortress is located within the city of Elbasan. Because it encompasses the central part of the town, it is accessible by foot from most central locations. Depending on your starting point in the city center, reaching the walls takes only a few minutes.

When to Visit
The site is outdoors, so visiting during the spring or autumn avoids the extreme temperatures of the Albanian summer. Early morning or late afternoon provides the most comfortable walking conditions. It does not typically experience heavy crowds.
