What It Is

Fuagea is an uninhabited islet situated in the southwestern section of Funafuti Atoll in Tuvalu. Travellers visit to experience an undisturbed atoll environment characterized by native coastal vegetation, white coral sand, and quiet lagoon waters away from the populated centre.

Getting There

Reaching the islet requires a boat transfer from Fongafale, the main urban area where Funafuti International Airport is located. Local boat hires can be arranged at the waterfront, with the crossing across the lagoon typically taking 30 to 45 minutes depending on sea conditions.

Time to Spend

Allow approximately 1 to 2 hours on the islet. The landmass is compact, offering sufficient time to walk along the shoreline, swim, and explore the beach.

When to Visit

Visits should be planned during daylight hours with calm weather and low winds, as choppy lagoon waters make disembarking difficult. Overcrowding is not an issue, and visitors usually find the island completely empty. Avoid crossing during heavy rain or rough sea advisories.
