Overview

Salthill is a seaside area located southwest of Galway city along Galway Bay. Its central feature is "The Prom," a 2 km promenade designed for walking along the coast. Travellers visit to walk beside the ocean and access nearby amenities such as cafes and small shops.

Getting There

From Galway city centre, the promenade is reachable on foot in 20 to 30 minutes along the water. Local buses take around 10 to 15 minutes from Eyre Square, while cycling takes under 10 minutes.

Time to Spend

Plan for 1 to 2 hours to walk the length of the promenade and stop for refreshments.

When to Visit

The area gets crowded on sunny summer days and weekend afternoons, making footpaths busy and parking difficult. Early mornings offer a quieter experience. Coastal wind and rain are frequent, so dress for changing weather.
