Granary Island in Gdańsk

Granary Island

Granary Island is a landmass located east of Gdańsk's Old Town, situated between branches of the Motława River. Travelers visit this area to see the riverfront architecture and experience a different perspective of the city's scenery compared to the main tourist streets.

Getting There

The island is accessible from the city centre via a short walk across the bridges connecting the Old Town to the riverbanks. Depending on your starting point in the center, it takes approximately 5 to 10 minutes to reach the waterfront area.

Duration of Visit

Allow 1 to 2 hours to walk along the riverbanks and observe the surrounding buildings and waterways. The pace is generally slow, as the primary activity is walking and sightseeing.

When to Visit

The area is accessible year-round, though the riverfront is most active during the spring and summer months. Like most central areas in Gdańsk, it can get crowded during peak tourist seasons and on weekends. Visiting during the early morning provides a quieter experience.

Nearby Attractions

Because of its central location, the island can be combined with several other sites within walking distance:

  • Archeological Museum in Gdańsk (0.3km)
  • Long Market (0.3km)
  • Gdański Teatr Szekspirowski (0.3km)
