Île Rousseau

Île Rousseau is a small island located in the Rhône river in Geneva. Visitors go here primarily to see the statue of the philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau and to take a short walk through the landscaped greenery in the middle of the waterway.

Getting There

The island is centrally located and accessible by foot from the city centre. Depending on your starting point in the downtown area, it typically takes 5 to 15 minutes to reach the island via the connecting bridges.

Duration of Visit

Because of its small size, most visitors spend between 20 and 40 minutes on the island. This allows enough time to walk the perimeter and view the monument.

When to Visit

The island is open to the public throughout the year. It is most pleasant during the spring and summer when the gardens are in bloom. Like many central points in Geneva, it can become crowded during peak tourist seasons and during the midday lunch hour when local workers visit the area.

Nearby Attractions

The island is positioned close to several other landmarks, making it easy to combine with other sights on foot:

  • Mont Blanc Bridge (0.1km)
  • Pont de la Machine (0.2km)
  • Holy Trinity Church (0.2km)
  • Brunswick Monument (0.3km)
