What It Is
The Stadshal is an open-air canopy structure in the heart of Ghent's old town, built as part of a project to redesign the central squares. The pavilion connects adjacent plazas and serves as a functional public space where pedestrians can rest, view contemporary architecture alongside medieval surroundings, or find shelter while exploring the city on foot.
Getting There
Located directly in the historic center, the site is reachable on foot within 2 to 5 minutes from almost anywhere in central Ghent. Local trams stopping at Korenmarkt also provide easy access with just a short walk.
Time to Allow
Allow approximately 10 to 20 minutes to walk around and underneath the structure. Because it is an open public space rather than an enclosed exhibition, it is easy to incorporate into a broader walking route.
When to Go
Daylight hours provide the best conditions for viewing the architectural woodwork and structural design, while evening visits allow you to see the installation lit up. The surrounding plaza gets crowded on sunny afternoons, during summer weekends, and during public events. Early mornings are best if you prefer fewer people around.
